The Parkchester section of the Bronx was developed by the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company in the early 1940s as a self-contained, middle class housing project. The Young Israel of Parkchester was founded in 1940 and first met in temporary quarters until a synagogue building was constructed in 1950.
